14″ Shamanic Reindeer Drum “Voice of the Ancients”

This unique Shamanic Reindeer Drum was birthed in Ceremony on The Holly New Moon in Leo on the 24th July 2025.

Lovely Reindeer Hide with beautiful markings is laced on a beeswaxed 14″ Birch frame and a burgundy leather bound ring.

Finished with a burgundy leather wrapped Bridget’s cross handle inset with a stunning Fossilised Coral cabochon as the heart stone.

This drum comes with a matching burgundy leather song caller, birthed together with the drum, this is stuffed with wool from our own ‘pet’ sheep and is bound onto a hand polished Holly Wood handle gathered from fallen wood from our own Holly trees on our land here on the West Coast of Scotland.

The drum comes with a small matching medicine pouch, which contains personally gathered natural sacred items representative of the four elements of earth, air, fire and water and also includes a hand picked crystal as a gift for you, and your drum. As your connection to drum evolves these unique pouches can be filled with personal items which can be changed in and out dependent on the work you are undertaking together with your drum

The Reindeer carries a powerful matriarchal energy, immensely resilient and powerful and yet is a gentle spirit and a great healer. Here in these Northern lands, the Reindeer is sometimes associated with the Goddess Elen. In Mongolia Reindeer feature prominently on ancient megaliths carved with symbols. Little is known about their meaning or function; these “deer stones” take their name from the stylised depictions of flying deer carved into the stone. Reindeer as a totem animal symbolises protection, wisdom, resourcefulness, knowledge, connection, creativity and inventiveness. The Reindeer spirit will spiral us deep into otherworld journeys carrying us on its flying hoofbeats.

Birch trees are considered pioneer species, rapidly colonizing land that has been levelled by fire or clear-cutting. They sprout fresh green leaves in early Spring, just as the first thaw begins. Hence, this tree’s long held association with fertility and new beginnings. It also carries powerful energies for clearing, cleansing and purification. The spirit of Birch offers courage and protection to those who would venture outside of the safe and the normal; through its sheltering of for the psychoactive Fly Agaric mushrooms Birch can be a powerful protector as we journey in the other realms

Holly this tree moon brings us courage and the strength to really ‘be’ our own power, (not just stand in it) coming from a heart centred place. Holly is the evergreen twin of the Oak. It is said, that whilst the Oak governs the light half of the year, the Holly tree governs the dark, winter months. Holly is a tree of inner courage, and holds up a mirror, reflecting to us what we need to work on to grow and evolve in all areas of our lives and will also cast light on others whom might not have our best interests at heart.

Fossilised Coral is a unique and ancient stone formed from prehistoric coral that has gradually been replaced by agate or calcite over millions of years. It is kown for its grounding and stabilising energies, making it an excellent crystal for promoting inner peace and resilience in the face of life’s changes. Fossilised Coral is believed to foster emotional healing by gently soothing turbulent feelings and encouraging a sense of security and wholeness. Its connection to earth and water elements also makes it a powerful stone for enhancing intuition, facilitating spiritual growth, and deepening one’s awareness of the interconnectedness of all living beings.

The New Moon, is a deeply mystical time of the month when the external world recedes, and our energy is drawn inward. The reindeer hides come from herds owned by traditional Sami herders in Northern Sweden, the animals are wild culled by their herders in order to make their traditional living and to maintain the health of their herds. Ros buys the hides through a small family run tannery to support and honour this traditional and ancient way of life, ensuring that all of the animal is used and nothing is wasted. All the skins Ros uses in her drums have been a bi-product of another sustainable purpose (killed for food or due to environmental pressures of overpopulation) and would otherwise be wasted; no animal was ever killed just to provide skin for a drum. Drum making can be seen as a reparation, a way of returning some beauty and honouring to an animal whose life has already been taken.The spirit of the animal lives on and is reborn into the drum.

The Wood for the frames is sourced from sustainably managed forests; and the wood for the song callers is personally gathered by Ros and seasoned every year.
