This unique Shamanic Red Deer Crystal Resonance Drum was birthed in Ceremony on the Hunter’s Moon or Blood Moon, the Apple full moon in Aries on 9th October 2022

The Hunters Moon is mentioned within the teachings or numerous Indigenous peoples and represents a potent time for magic and rituals, as well as a beautiful time of inward growth and reflection. This moon marks the end of the harvest season and brings a time of reflection on what you’ve accomplished this year and an opportunity to focus on what you’re grateful for. It is also a time to prepare for the icy cold days and nights to come.
The astrological sign of Aries encourages us to focus on all our relationships including the one with ourselves. The powerful heart centred, nourishing and love focused energies of the Apple tree blend perfectly into this full moon time; offering us the opportunity to make choices for our own self-care to nourish ourselves before we give out to others. All of these energies have been woven into the drum during its birthing.

Red deer Hide is laced onto a beeswaxed Oak wood frame and dark brown leather wrapped ring, four crystal drum resonators are created with captive large blood stone tumble stones. These are held between the frame and the hide at each of the four directions.

Finished with a dark brown leather wrapped Bridget’s Cross handle inset with a stunning Brecciated Jasper crystal as the Heart Stone.
This drum comes with a matching dark brown leather leather song caller, birthed together with the drum, this is stuffed with wool from our own ‘pet’ sheep and is bound onto a hand polished Apple wood handle.

The drum comes with a small matching medicine pouch with an Apple wood decoration, and contains personally gathered natural sacred items representative of the four elements of earth, air, fire and water and also includes a hand picked crystal – as a gift for you, and your drum. As your connection to your drum evolves these unique pouches can be filled with personal items which can be changed in and out dependent on the work you are undertaking together with your drum

Bloodstone’s unique appearance, its red spots within a deep green core, symbolise the process of spiritual transformation. This form of Jasper, also known as Heliotrope, from the belief it turned the reflection of the sun from gold to blood red; is incredibly supportive in times of overwhelm or intense struggle. On a deeper level, bloodstone can help in the re-orchestration of your archetypal symphony, (which archetypes are playing louder or softer roles in your life).

Brecciated Jasper is a stone of strong earthy connection tempered with gentleness and patience. It helps to awaken one’s inner power. It brings love and tolerance for others, even when they may find it difficult to do so themselves. The name Brecciated-Jasper comes from the word ‘breccia’ which means ‘broken bits’ or ‘fragments’, a geology term used when rocks composed of broken fragments cement together to form a fine-grained matrix. It is a calming stone, and a stone of ‘mending’. This is a great stone for those who need more willpower and confidence, is also used as a protection against psychic attacks, and can help the user develop clairvoyance and interpret visions more easily and accurately.

This heart stone is a stunning polished cabochon with a deep red colour and wonderful streaks of white and black.

The drum-birthing process is carried out in ceremonial space, with prayers and thanks given to honour the spirit of the animal, the trees and the stones of the earth that gifted themselves to bring these sacred allies and medicine tools into being. The drum lacing is cut from the same hide as the drum head ~ weaving the spirit of the animal into the drum; the wood, the colours and any crystals incorporated into each drum are gathered through otherworld journeying and guidance from her drum guide, each drum is unique.

The Red Deer carries the energy of a gentle powerhouse. Swift moving with a keen eye, the deer connects us to our heart energy.

In Native American traditions the deer was a messenger, an animal of power, and a totem representing sensitivity, intuition and gentleness. In Celtic lore there were two aspects of the deer: the female red deer, symbolising femininity, gentleness and grace; and the male red deer, related to the sacred and to the forests, symbolising independence, purification and pride. The stag is the king of the forest, the protector of all other creatures.

All of the hides and frames for Ros Simons shamanic drums are sustainably and ethically sourced.

The red deer hides come from wild culled deer, a process which is necessary to maintain the health of the herds; and prior to being purchased by Ros the hides were being buried or burnt. All the skins Ros uses in her drums have been a bi-product of another sustainable purpose (killed for food or due to environmental pressures of overpopulation) and would otherwise be wasted; no animal was ever killed just to provide skin for a drum. Drum making can be seen as a reparation, a way of returning some beauty and honouring to an animal whose life has already been taken. In this way we return more to the ways of our ancestors, ensuring that all of the animal is used and nothing is wasted. The spirit of the animal lives on and is reborn into the drum.

The Wood for the frames is sourced from sustainably managed forests; and the wood for the song callers is personally gathered by Ros and seasoned every year.
