14″ Shamanic Reindeer Drum “Winter Dreamer”

14″ Shamanic Reindeer Drum

Birthed in ceremony at Lunar Imbolc, laced onto a beeswaxed Birch wood frame with a matching song caller on Birch.

Description

This unique Shamanic Reindeer Drum was birthed in Ceremony at Lunar Imbolc on the Rowan New Moon in Aquarius on 23rd January 2023

Imbolc is the first Sabaat in the wheel of the year and symbolises the halfway point between the winter solstice (Yule) and the spring equinox (Ostara). The word “imbolc” means “in the belly of the Mother,” and resonates with this time because now is when the seeds of spring are beginning to stir in the belly of Mother Earth.  It is a celebration honouring the goddess Brigid, and the perfect time to honour your inner fire. This is the time of the year we begin to clear out the old and outgrown in preparation for the year to come. The astrological sign of Aquarius augments the usual new moon energies of new beginnings, with optimistic, forward-moving, change-the-world energy and offers us a time to set intentions that help us set our frequency to attract the life we want to live. The powerful protective and heart opening energies of the Rowan tree blend perfectly into this new moon time offering us enhanced psychic and visionary abilities-  and all of these energies have been woven into the drum during its birthing.

Reindeer hide with stunning markings is laced onto a beeswaxed Birch Frame and an emerald green leather wrapped iron ring

Finished with a green leather wrapped Bridget’s Cross handle inset with a stunning Howlite piece as the Heart Stone.

The matching green leather song caller is bound onto a hand polished Rowan wood handle inset with a Howlite cabochon.

This lovely drum has a strong voice that belies its size, the skin has some unusual natural markings and scarring, and it would make a wonderful healing or journeying drum.

Howlite is a very calming stone, facilitating a slowing down, and encouraging patience and taking time to gain a clear perspective, it’s also particularly supportive when moving through deep emotions and unrest. Howlite makes a great energetic shield, its white colour, can actually reflect or repel negative energy. It’s gentle vibration encourages flow and connection, raising your awareness and granting you clearer vision, a real meditation and journeying enhancer.

The Reindeer carries a powerful matriarchal energy, immensely resilient and powerful and yet is a gentle spirit and a great healer. Here in these Northern lands, the Reindeer is sometimes associated with the Goddess Elen. In Mongolia Reindeer feature prominently on ancient megaliths carved with symbols. Little is known about their meaning or function; these “deer stones” take their name from the stylised depictions of flying deer carved into the stone. Reindeer as a totem animal symbolises protection, wisdom, resourcefulness, knowledge, connection, creativity and inventiveness. The Reindeer spirit will spiral us deep into otherworld journeys carrying us on its flying hoofbeats.

Birch trees are considered pioneer species, rapidly colonizing land that has been levelled by fire or clear-cutting. They sprout fresh green leaves in early Spring, just as the first thaw begins. Hence, this tree’s long held association with fertility and new beginnings. It also carries powerful energies for clearing, cleansing and purification. The spirit of Birch offers courage and protection to those who would venture outside of the safe and the normal; through its sheltering of for the psychoactive Fly Agaric mushrooms Birch can be a powerful protector as we journey in the other realms.

Rowan is a powerful tree of psychic protection and also the protection of home and family; this tree also helps tune us into nature both within us and around us. The Rowan will open us up to our inner wisdom and deepen our connection with our higher-self and higher vibrational teachers and guides, enhancing our intuition and psychic abilities.

Ros Simons has been creating sacred shamanic drums and ceremonial tools for over 19 years, using personally refined techniques and practices that were handed down to her in the traditional way from teachers and mentors.

The drum-birthing process is carried out in ceremonial space, with prayers and thanks given to honour the spirit of the animal, the trees and the stones of the earth that gifted themselves to bring these sacred allies and medicine tools into being. The drum lacing is cut from the same hide as the drum head ~ weaving the spirit of the animal into the drum; the wood, the colours and any crystals incorporated into each drum are gathered by Ros through otherworld journeying and guidance from her drum guide, each drum is unique.

Your personal drum will become a guide, a healer, a teacher and a friend, that walks with you on your path, and takes you on a deep journey of other world and inner world exploration.

All of the Shamanic Drums birthed by Ros are guaranteed for two years provided you treat them with love and care and follow the included drum care instructions.

If this drum has already found its keeper or you would like a Shamanic Drum similar to this, but unique and birthed especially for you, then you can order a bespoke drum to be made to your individual wishes and birthed with your own prayers and intentions. For more information please take a look at the Commissions Page.

All of the hides and frames for Ros Simons shamanic drums are sustainably and ethically sourced.

The reindeer hides come from herds owned by traditional Sami herders in Northern Sweden, the animals are wild culled by their herders in order to make their traditional living and to maintain the health of their herds. Ros buys the hides through a small family run tannery to support and honour this traditional and ancient way of life, ensuring that all of the animal is used and nothing is wasted.

All the skins Ros uses in her drums have been a bi-product of another sustainable purpose (killed for food or due to environmental pressures of overpopulation) and would otherwise be wasted; no animal was ever killed just to provide skin for a drum. Drum making can be seen as a reparation, a way of returning some beauty and honouring to an animal whose life has already been taken. The spirit of the animal lives on and is reborn into the drum.

The Wood for the frames is sourced from sustainably managed forests; The Wood for the frames is sourced from sustainably managed forests; and the wood for the song callers is personally gathered and seasoned by Ros every year..
